A THOUSAND SLIMY THINGS
The Royal Exchange & Tangere Arts
A WEDDING, A DEAD BIRD, AND A WHOLE LOT OF WATER

A wedding, a party, a perfect day. What could possibly go wrong?

Suddenly a strange old man with glittering eyes interrupts.

Beware! The Ancient Mariner is here!

His look stops you dead, his words full of dread - he starts to tell you a tale set on the High Seas, full of doom and destruction, that takes you down to the murky depths of your imagination.

Will you dare to follow him? And if you do, will you ever be the same again?

Coleridge’s classic poem is transformed into a swashbuckling adventure, awash with live music and highly physical comedy by Tangere Arts, who have previously delighted children and adults alike at the Royal Exchange with HOOD IN THE WOOD, A TASTY TALE and TIN SOLDIER.

Based on The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Suitable for all brave souls aged 9+

“a rough poetry that is beautifully matched by a musically underscored production” (The Guardian on TIN SOLDIER)

“an immense performance – delivers that atmosphere in spades” (The Stage on TIN SOLDIER)

“catchy score…dark but gripping – thrillingly fashioned in Lagden’s physical creation.” (The Independent on TIN SOLDIER)

'A HUGELY ENTERTAINING AND INVENTIVE PIECE...At the performance I saw, an audience of brave souls, most of them not much over nine years old, were UTTERLY TRANSFIXED' Manchester Theatre Awards

'A THOUSAND SLIMY THINGS sounds as if it is a made for children production - and indeed it is - but if adults in the audience do not come away charmed and entertained then I for one would be very surprised...it certainly does tell the tale of that ancient seaman but in a quirkily entertaining manner, with enough laughs to keep the youngest entertained and with more than enough drama and action to create the tension of Coleridge’s classic story.

Both actors are excellent story tellers and Preece’s musical expertise is worth the entrance fee alone...There are also some charming moments of audience participation and a few stage tricks to bring everyone onboard this ship of destiny, and a hugely entertaining ship it is too. There is every chance it will be the most entertaining water adventure you could have - without even getting your feet wet.'  The Daily Post
