IN THE LOUNGE...
Free discussions and drop-in sessions with directors, designers, writers, actors
.
The Lounge is a public space situated next to Bar Exchange in the Great Hall. Open since September 2008, the space, with its talking chair, comfy sofa, designer coffee table incorporating secret drawers and display section, haunted telephones and a TV/DVD has proved popular with casual visitors, as a meeting point, as a drop-in space and as a workshop resource, and has already been accessed by over 2000 project participants as well as numerous members of the public.

Since 2010, we have held regular events relating to the current production on stage, and new for 2012, we have now introduced writing specific and community specific events...

Thursday 21 March, 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Join Max Webster, director of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, as he chats about this iconic 20th century masterpiece and how it'll be brought to life for our stage.
              
Thursday 18 April, 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Join assistant director Ed Lewis, as he talks about the world premiere of CANNIBALS, written by local playwright Rory Mullarkey right here within the Royal Exchange walls.

Thursday 16 May, 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Join Greg Hersov, director of A DOLL'S HOUSE - a role he reprises from its first showing here in 1987 and what it's like to work with the hugely talented Cush Jumbo for a third time.

Thursday 20 June, 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Join guest director Blanche McIntyre - winner of the Critics Circle Most Promising Newcomer 2011 - as she talks about her debut directing role at the Royal Exchange, which sees her take on one of Pinter's best-known and most-popular plays - THE BIRTHDAY PARTY.

Wednesday 25 July 6.00pm - 7.00pm
Join TOO CLEVER BY HALF director Paul Hunter as he returns to the Exchange for another RET and Told by an Idiot production - this time an anarchic, larger than life version of Ostrovsky's best-known comedy.


 

New Writing Events...

With the 2013 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting competition open for submissions, these In The Lounge events will be looking at the writing process, as well as advice and tips. All sessions will be hosted by New Writing Associate Suzanne Bell.

Community Drop-In Events...
 
The Royal Exchange Theatre’s Community Programme is a genuine opportunity for community organisations to forge close, developmental links with us. We work with groups who are under-represented in theatre and who may be at risk of social exclusion. Led by the theatre’s Community Co-ordinator, these informal sessions are suitable for groups or organizations from across Greater Manchester that work with hard to reach communities.

Thurday 28 February 2013, 4.00pm - 6.00pm 
A chance for Community Links groups that haven't done any or only a little work with the Royal Exchange to find out more about this opportunity. Following the Drop In, we can offer you a ticket to stay and watch the performance of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at 7.30pm. To attend this Drop In, and reserve your ticket for the evening's performance you must confirm your attendance by emailing emma.bawn@royalexchange.co.uk

Thursday 28 March 2013, 4.00pm - 6.00pm  
A chance for groups and organisations that aren't involved in the Royal Exchange Theatre's Community Programme to find out more about what's involved, and in particular become a member of the theatre's Community Links scheme.

Thursday 25 April 2013, 4.00pm - 6.00pm
The April Drop In is aimed at organisations that have been involved in the Community Partnerships programme previously, and is a chance to catch up on developments that have taken place since the projects ended.

Education Lounge community exhibition opening.

Thursday 27 June 2013, 4.00pm - 6.00pm
