BLINDSIDED
A Royal Exchange Theatre Production
WORLD PREMIERE
Julie Hesmondhalgh returns to the Royal Exchange in Simon Stephen's brand new play set in Stockport

Presenting the World Premiere of BLINDSIDED by Simon Stephens, directed by Sarah Frankcom from Royal Exchange Theatre on Vimeo. Film created by Matt Hargraves.

A girl growing up in a battered part of Stockport in a battered time at the end of the seventies, falls in love with the man who will break her heart into a thousand pieces.

BLINDSIDED is a devastating, unexpected play about families, love and betrayal.

Simon Stephens is one of the most prolific contemporary writers in the UK. He won an Olivier Award for his acclaimed adaptation of Mark Haddon's novel THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT, and his play PORT, which premiered at the Royal Exchange in 2002, have both recently enjoyed hugely successful runs at the National Theatre. BLINDSIDED is the fourth play he has written specifically for the Royal Exchange stage and follows the success of PUNK ROCK in 2009.

Sarah Frankcom’s recent credits for the Royal Exchange include ORPHEUS DESCENDING, MISS JULIE and A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE. The cast includes Katie West (PUNK ROCK) and Julie Hesmondhalgh (BLACK ROSES, CORONATION STREET).

‘The Royal Exchange is steeped in the city in a way which is thrilling. The tension between the epic scale of the place and its intimacy is quite extraordinary.’ Simon Stephens
