'Phyllida Lloyd's production of Euripides' gutsy tragedy lives up to expectations as a sensationally spectacular piece of physical theatre sustaining a vertiginous emotional altitude...Visually it's bewitching...Claire Benedict's performance as Medea is stunning...There are vivid characterisations, too, from Peter Badejo as Aigeus, Akim Mogaji as the tutor, and Sandra Voe as the nurse and a hypnotic intensity to the chorus of black-robed women. Anthony Ward's setting, on an elemental circle of inter-locking stone slabs, is superb.'
