The Triumph Of Love
Translated and adapted by Braham Murray and Katherine Sand
17 April 2007 to 19 May 2007
Royal Exchange Theatre

“What do the faked illness and the copied portraits mean? Who are the man and woman? Why are we dressed up? What are we doing in Hermocrate’s garden? What do you want of him? What do you want of me? Where are we going? What will happen to us? Where is it all leading to? Tell me before I burst!”
Gender-bending, erotic and sexually-charged, THE TRIUMPH OF LOVE is the 18th Century equivalent of a Joe Orton comedy. Using the tried and tested formula of cross-dressing and confusion, Braham Murray’s adaptation twists and turns and leads its characters to a blithely cruel and inevitable conclusion.
