HAY FEVER
01 July 2008 to 16 August 2008
Royal Exchange Theatre

JACKIE: Do you suppose they know they’re mad?
SANDY: No; people never do ...

STOP PRESS We are delighted to announce that due to popular demand HAY FEVER has been extended for an extra week, and will now close on 16 August

When each member of an eccentric theatrical family invites a guest to stay with them without telling the other, the stage is set for a memorable and madcap weekend in the country.

Retired actress Judith Bliss, her novelist husband David, and their two self-indulgent children Simon and Sorel are each looking forward to a weekend in the country with a potential romantic attachment of their choice. However, as each realises that the other has invited a guest of their own, and each couple treads on the others toes, the weekend quickly descends into a mass of mishaps and misunderstandings as The Bliss’s play a game from which their hapless guests are desperate to escape. One of the great comic creations in the history of theatre, a weekend with The Bliss’s proves to be unforgettable in Noel Coward’s much-loved classic.

HAY FEVER
By Noel Coward
Directed by Greg Hersov
designed by Ashley Martin-Davis

Did you know? HAY FEVER was based on Coward’s experience of gatherings at the home of celebrated American stage actress Laurette Taylor – who went on to perform the role of Amanda Wingfield in THE GLASS MENAGERIE.

If you liked this, you’ll love this …ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS and George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU for eccentric families and their outlandish behaviour.
