  • WHAT HAPPENS DURING BEHIND THE SCENES WORK WEEK?
  • This one-week course will comprise of a series of workshops led by staff from across the Royal Exchange Theatre Company and will cover areas such as Sound, Lighting, Wardrobe, Stage Management, Front of House and much more. Towards the end of week you will put all you have learnt into practice, working behind the scenes, creating a production.

During the week, you will have the opportunity to see a professional production at the Royal Exchange Theatre, and achieve your Bronze Arts Award. For more information on Arts Award click here.

  • WHO CAN APPLY?
  • We have two BEHIND THE SCENES WORK WEEK’S during an academic year:

BTSWW: AGE 16-19 - anyone aged between 16 and 19 who is not in Year 11 or studying at degree level. (If you are in Year 11 at school or studying at degree level you are NOT eligible to apply.)

BTSWW: AGE 14-16 - anyone who is in Year 10 or Year 11 is eligible to apply for the week.

  • HOW DO YOU SELECT?
  • Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee a place on BEHIND THE SCENES WORK WEEK to everybody who applies. We aim to select those who we feel will benefit the most from the experience. We will be looking for a balanced mix of young people from different areas of Greater Manchester. Because we are funded by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), we will prioritise young people who live within the Greater Manchester districts.

  • DO YOU RECRUIT AT ANY OTHER TIME DURING THE YEAR?
  • We host a second BEHIND THE SCENES WORK WEEK in the summer term which is open to 14 - 16 year olds. Applications for this week will open in Janruary 2019.

BEHIND THE SCENES WORK WEEK has been designed in response to the large number of requests that we receive for school and college work experience opportunities, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate work experience outside of these weeks.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T GET OFFERED A PLACE?
  • We will add everyone who has applied for the BEHIND THE SCENES WORK WEEK to our mailing list and keep in touch about any other projects or opportunities which come up. We would also encourage you to apply again next year.
