This is an exciting time to be joining the Royal Exchange Theatre, as it moves out of the pandemic and shifts its attentions to long-term growth.

This new leadership role has a focus on growing contributed income, alongside deputising for the Executive Director. The Development Director/ Deputy Executive Director will help shape the future of fundraising at the Royal Exchange as well as working with the Executive Director to steward the business and implement ambitious plans in the delivery of our core objectives.


The Development Director/Deputy Executive Director will take lead responsibility for the evolution of the Development function. This is also an exciting time for the Development team, when we will be refocusing our strategy and designing the team to deliver it. The Development Director/Deputy Executive Director will be responsible for reshaping, rebuilding and implementing the Theatre’s Development activity, and then hold overall responsibility for the leadership, management and continuous development of the function once it’s been established.

The role will work with the Executive Director and Finance Director to establish annual fundraising targets and provide effective management reporting and assessments against them. The Development Director/ Deputy Executive Director will also set capital and revenue fundraising targets with the Executive Director and Finance Director within the Theatre’s annual budgeting cycle and lead the Development Team in achieving these targets.


ROLE: Development Director/Deputy Executive Director

SALARY: £46,500 per annum

CONTRACT: 35 hours per week, fixed term for 4 years

RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Development team and others in the delivery of the Deputy Executive Director function.
