Venues North has launched 'Routes In: A Guide to Getting New Work Programmed in the North of England' and we're delighted to be part of it.
A copy of the guide, which will be updated annually, can be downloaded here.
This new guide has been compiled by Venues North, a group of 20 venues from across the North of England who are committed to supporting artists to create new work. The group’s aim is to work together as venues to support new and emerging artists from the North to get their work more widely seen regionally, nationally and internationally.
The group meets regularly to develop and share best practice around talent development, and the compilation of this new guide is a response to the group’s experience of being approached by artists and companies trying to get their work programmed.
As well as some hints and tips about how to build relationships with venues, the 50 page guide includes full details of each venue’s artistic policy, how to approach them and current talent development initiatives.
Annabel Turpin of ARC Stockton, who chairs Venues North, says:
“We believe that the process of touring and programming could be more effective, if only venues were more proactive about stating what they are and aren’t interested in, and if artists and companies were more targeted in their approach. Routes In is designed to help with this by providing clear information about artistic policies and programming processes. The General Information section is aimed at those just starting out, whereas we envisage the venue specific information will be of value to a wider group.”
