margate/dreamland is about an island, a town and its people. It is our response to the current state of the world and its imminent collapse.

It is about the kaleidoscope of competing narratives of who we are. It is a love song.

Long-term collaborators and members of the pioneering cult performance collective Shunt, Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari make wild, bold, visual performance for people who don’t really like theatre and unique theatrical experiences for those who do.

They have spent the last 4 years researching and writing this show. At this time of momentous change in the town, in the country, in the world, they have been talking to the people of Margate, scribbling down overheard conversations, trawling the internet and scouring local papers- they have assembled these voices into an epic poem that they perform with synth/punk/rockers AK/DK.

Made with generous help from the people of Margate and with support from Arts Council, England, Tom Thumb Theatre, Margate, Shoreditch Town Hall and National Theatre Studio.
