The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting is the UK’s biggest national competition for playwriting. It is the search for great new plays and great writers. We look for scripts that are original and unperformed, by writers of any experience.

The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2017 closed for entries on 5 June and 1,898 entries have been carefully whittled down by an army of over 104 readers to a shortlist of 10! These final 10 have since been read by the 2017 panel of judges, chaired by Kirsty Lang and including screenwriter Russell T Davies, actor Alfred Enoch and award-winning director Lyndsey Turner.

The winner will be announced at the Bruntwood Prize Ceremony on Monday 13 November at the Royal Exchange Theatre, followed by a drinks reception with canapes and live music in The Rivals Garden.
