THE MIGHTY WALZER RELAXED PERFORMANCE

Relaxed performances are designed to welcome anyone who will benefit from a more relaxed performance environment. Traditionally this has included people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory and communication disorders, or a learning disability.

“Relaxed performances are just a brilliant idea. As a teacher I try to get my students as involved in the community as possible, no matter how complex their needs, and it's great to know that they were comfortable in the theatre and also that the theatre was comfortable with them! Theatre is exciting, and awe inspiring - and I'm so glad our students didn’t have to miss out on seeing this great show just because they might not sit perfectly quietly for a few hours...”

For each Relaxed Performance we make small changes to the staging, there is a relaxed attitude to noise and movement and we have breakout areas for use during the performance. Additional resources including a visual guide to the theatre and the production are available in advance to support people who are visiting the Theatre for these performances.

Everyone is very welcome to attend this performance, regardless of whether or not you 'require' the special conditions it will offer. It promises to be an inclusive, enjoyable experience for all. The recommended age for THE MIGHTY WALZER is 11+.

ABOUT THE SHOW...
Oliver Walzer is shy, bookish, Jewish. He doesn’t know how to talk to girls. But he can slice, flick and spin a ping pong ball better than any teenager in Manchester.

When Sheeny Waxman takes him under his wing on the Akiva Social Club Table Tennis team, Oliver channels his frustrated adolescent lust into the game he loves.

That is until the heartbreaking Lorna Peachley and the prospect of a place at Cambridge take his eye off the ball.

Man Booker Prize winner Howard Jacobson’s hilarious homage to the Manchester of his youth is brought to the stage for the first time in this dazzling new adaptation.
