A Royal Exchange Theatre Production
The accidental death of a child forces a group of Bostonians to confront what community means to them and who they’re prepared to help.
A fort on a hilltop, a landowner’s estate, a tourist information office, a bird sanctuary, a re-developed factory, a public square, silent and remembering. Chris Thorpe’s cycle of six new plays explores the landscapes that surround us and how we live with each other.
In this ambitious production by Sam Pritchard, each of the six parts of The Mysteries will be made and premiered in the place it was written. During its run in Manchester, two day-long performances of the whole cycle will take place in the Royal Exchange Theatre space.
Chris Thorpe is Associate Artist at the Royal Exchange and has created the hugely successful THERE HAS POSSIBLY BEEN AN INCIDENT. Chris was a founder member of Unlimited Theatre and is an Associate of Live Art/ Theatre company Third Angel. Chris has recently collaborated with Rachel Bagshaw, writing the award-winning THE SHAPE OF THE PAIN.
Chris's work tours internationally and is also regularly produced for stage and radio throughout Europe and in the US, including the upcoming premiere of VICTORY CONDITION at Residenzteater Munich, and the Italian productions of THERE HAS POSSIBLY BEEN AN INCIDENT and CONFIRMATION winning the Premio Franco Enriquez 2018. Chris was the Arvon mentor for playwrighting, 2016/17, and works with the National Student Drama Festival.
