We’ll Be In Touch

We’ll Be in Touch is a unique project about older people supporting other older people via a creative phone service.

The project began in January 2021 following a partnership between the Royal Exchange Theatre and Together Dementia Support, supported by Small Things.

Volunteers from the Royal Exchange Theatre’s Elders' Company led creative phone calls with participants from Together Dementia Support creating an anthology of poems; and a new spoken-word podcast of poetry.

The project was led by the Elders Leaders - graduates of the Elders Company - who volunteer to support the Elders programme. Participants from Together Dementia Support were partnered with an Elders Leader, who telephoned them once a week for a month.

During each call, the Elders Leader shared a piece of text (a poem, song lyric or verse from Shakespeare), invited a conversation about it and then posed a series of questions which led to the creation of a brand new poem.
