Tuesday 9 June sees our first Relaxed Performance take place. And following this, Amanda Dalton, Director of Engagement will be hosting a post-show discussion, so why not come to a performance with a difference and after be part of the conversation about who theatre is for, and what it really means for a performance to be live? Standards tickets just £15 / concessions £10.

Relaxed performances are for EVERYONE. At their heart, they are about ensuring that theatre is genuinely inclusive. In order to do this, we have made small adjustments to THE GHOST TRAIN performance on Tuesday 9 June to make sure that for people on the Autism Spectrum, or with sensory or communication disorders, the performance is comfortable and accessible. We have also made some changes to the environment – so the doors will remain open during the show for people to freely come and go and we will, of course, be adopting a laid-back, relaxed attitude to noise and movement.

Some of the audience members will be attending this performance because they feel it is best suited to their needs; others are coming along because it is, in essence, a regular matinee performance of this fabulous, fun-filled production.

Director Paul Hunter and THE GHOST TRAIN company have been working with us to prepare for this special afternoon and we are all very much looking forward to welcoming you, the audience, to share in this new adventure.

Here is some information which will help you to prepare for your visit to the Royal Exchange Theatre...

This picture guide tells you more about the Theatre, the facilities, and what happens during a play. We hope that it will help you to feel as comfortable and relaxed as you would in your home, especially if this is your first visit to the theatre. View here.

This document tells you more about the play THE GHOST TRAIN. It includes a list of the actors with details about the characters they are playing, and tells you more about the story of the play. It also includes a bit more information about the relaxed performance environment. View here.

Copies of these documents will also be available on the day for you to pick up when you arrive at the Theatre.

This performance of THE GHOST TRAIN is the first relaxed performance that we have held at the Royal Exchange Theatre. We are really keen to offer more performances like this in the future, and so on Tuesday 9 June there will be two film makers helping to document the performance. The film they produce will support our future fundraising by making people aware of the importance of offering relaxed environments. If you have any concerns about the filming or would like to find out more about supporting Relaxed Performances then please contact Gina on This email address is being protected from spambots. The relaxed performance of THE GHOST TRAIN has been generously supported by The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund, Manchester Guardian Society Charitable Trust, The D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust and Ordinary People, Interesting Lives.
