A fantastic opportunity for people aged 60+ to get involved with the Royal Exchange Theatre!

Elders aren't just 'older' - they're wiser, they have seniority. In a good society, older people are respected for their experience, they know things, like teachers - they're our 'elder statespeople.'

The Royal Exchange Company of Elders is a performance group for people aged 60+, to develop performance skills, make boundary-pushing theatre and challenge negative stereotypes of ageing. Established in 2014 the Company has already collaborated with the New Vic Theatre's intergenerational project, Ages and Stages.

From 2015 we have space for ten new members!

We are looking for people with a range of experiences and backgrounds to join our existing company.

“Nothing else I do in my activities or, indeed, have done in the past has brought my new found confidence I am now experiencing.”

No previous experience of performing is necessary, just an enthusiasm and commitment to take part and a desire to meet new people and discover new things.

The 2015 programme includes weekly sessions on Wednesday afternoons between 2 and 4pm throughout January and March (14, 21, 28 Jan, 4, 11, 18, 25 Feb and 4, 11, 18, March).

“The energy and enthusiasm of the participants was infectious – my initial self-consciousness was worn away with each session. At the same time, initial impressions were constantly challenged and changed by interaction with some very interesting and fascinating people.”
