A Royal Exchange Theatre Production
The war is over, the victory complete. But for Macbeth, the triumphant forces’ most fearsome warrior, the battle for the throne is only just beginning – and she’ll stop at nothing to take the crown.
Shakespeare’s darkest tragedy is also his most chilling thriller - an action-packed, edge-of-the-seat psychological fable that crackles with life – and the constant threat of death. Following their collaboration on GROUNDED, Lucy Ellinson takes the title role in director Christopher Haydon’s highly-charged production, which explores what happens, when in a split-second you decide to act upon your deepest, darkest ambition.

"Christopher Haydon's visceral production pulls out all the stops to assualt the senses. Ellinson... pulls off some spectacular performative gear changes" Christ Bartlett, The Stage
"Ellinson's Macbeth is intelligent and thoughtful" David Chadderton, British Theatre Guide
"Ellinson is mesmerising" Emma Yates-Badley, Northern Soul
"Ellinson's tormenetd, consumed Macbeth is riveting... the production is crammed with twisted surprises" Sam Marlowe, The Times
"Ellinson’s Macbeth rises to the challenge of depicting a multi-faceted, contradictory and conflicted warrior in a chaotic world. Her Macbeth is equally wilful and fragile, passionate and detached, grief ridden and unrepentant. It’s a standout performance, equally matched by Ony Uhiara’s brilliant Lady Macbeth, whose intoxication with power is played convincingly and tenaciously." Shamima Noor, A Younger Theatre
