This year’s Young Company Studio show has come to an end, following a sell-out run and acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Before we leave The Brink behind, let's look back on all the #brinking from #RXYC…

Brink1   Brink2

was written by Jackie Kay and directed by Matthew Xia, the theatre’s Associate Artistic Director in collaboration with the Young Company.

In November 2014, Jackie met members of the Young Company to discuss the idea of BRINK and what this could mean. Young people shared their stories and experiences of brinking before Jackie used these as the starting point for the play. Meanwhile, members of the Young Writers created their own work in response to the stimulus, which later sat alongside the other stories created by Jackie.

Members of the Young Performers formed the 20 strong ensemble for the piece whilst the Young Design Technicians dealt with all production aspects including stage management, wardrobe, lighting, sound and set design. The Young Communicators led the marketing campaign including print design, rehearsal photography, film making and a social media plan that used Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and blogs to spread #brinking far and wide.

‘I've truly learnt what it feels like to be part of an ensemble. Having the experience of working with such a talented bunch of people and professionals has been truly amazing. I've also learnt lots of valuable information how much it takes to put on a professional production’

‘For me, having the chance to work with a group of the most friendly and supportive cast, directors and stage management has made the experience truly unique and enjoyable’

‘The best part was being able to work with a professional team and be treated as a professional myself, not just a teenager’
