COSTUME HIRE NEWS MAY 2015

SPRING GREENING

Whether or not you’ll be voting for the Green Party in the forthcoming election, we’re sure that, like us, you try to do your bit for the environment by recycling, upcycling and re-using wherever possible.

So that’s another good reason to visit Costume Hire when you’re looking for the perfect outfit for your fancy dress event. Just think of all the discarded costumes purchased on eBay and Amazon littering landfill sites across the UK. Why add to their number when you can so easily hire a stunning outfit of superb quality at a very reasonable price from our wide-ranging stock of costumes from past productions at the Royal Exchange?

Not all of our costumes are green, but hiring from us this Spring is certainly one way of doing our bit for a greener UK, if you see what we mean!

WHAT'S IN AND WHAT'S OUT?

We always love it when we have orders for school and college productions: the theatre bug can’t bite early enough as far as we’re concerned!

This spring has seen us providing costumes for several plays put on by young people, from Arthur Miller’s ‘Crucible’ at Chorlton High School to Loreto’s ‘An Inspector Calls’, and, a new group for us, The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, who put on a production of Moliere’s ‘Candide’ at The Mill at the Pier in Wigan. Good to see this venue getting a new lease of life.

And the long-awaited opening of one of two new five-star hotels in Manchester, Hotel Gotham, located in the fabulous Art Deco building which formerly housed the Midland Bank on King Street, finally took place earlier this month. We’ve been working closely with the design team on this project for some time now, and you can see some of the images from the pre-opening publicity as well as from the opening event on the web.

So that’s what we’ve been sending out our costumes for - but what’s coming in?

Well, it can’t have escaped your notice that there’s a new season of ‘Game of Thrones’, and our seamstresses are busy in-house making some costumes based on those in this popular series. We’re sure there’ll be a big demand for them.

And watch out for more news of something we’re planning in conjunction with Liverpool’s celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Cunard Line, which is being celebrated in true Liverpool style this summer with a whole series of events, including a piece of street theatre which we’re costuming. It won’t be quite as big as the Liverpool Pals we worked on last year, but it’ll doubtless be just as successful in drawing the crowds to this wonderful city.

AND DON'T FORGET THAT WE NOW OFFER A SPECIAL SERVICE

We now offer a service whereby we can prepare larger orders for groups if you send us accurate measurements and details of the production and characters. Simply contact us and download measurements forms from our web pages, complete them, send them to us, and we’ll do the rest.

Many amateur and professional dramatic companies, plus schools and colleges, are finding this service an invaluable way of providing costumes with a minimum of time and stress – please contact us if you want to know more.
