Regulars to the Costume Hire News pages will know that we always post something at this time of year about Hallowe'en.
Scratching about for a different angle, we scanned the current year's programme, only to find ideas a-plenty for Hallowe'en inspiration with a theatrical twist.
First off, we have our critically-acclaimed production of 'Hamlet', starring Maxine Peake in the lead role. So there's a ghost to begin with, the dead king of Denmark haunting the palace of Elsinore nightly in an attempt to persuade Hamlet to avenge his murder.
In October's 'Dark Tales from the Woods' a professional storyteller weaves his thread of 'red-blooded fairy tales', and our forthcoming Christmas show is none other than 'The Little Shop of Horrors'. A bit of a theme emerging here, isn't there?
More murder and mayhem with previous productions of 'Macbeth' and 'Sweeney Todd', evil magic in 'The Tempest', and a sinister murder in 'Punk Rock' all add to the mood of darkness and horror. Or we can give you blood a-plenty in 'The Revenger's Tragedy' and 'Bats' (based on the Dracula story) if you want real gore to brighten up the dark theme.
Can't find ideas for your haunting Hallowe'en outfit here? Then what about the evil of Dr Faustus, or something spookily supernatural from Madame Arcati in 'Blithe Spirit'? Or the blood-chilling attack on Scout as she's coming home from her school's Hallowe'en party in 'To Kill a Mockingbird'? (We even have the ham costume, knife mark and all, that she wore in our recent production.)
It's always difficult to ring the changes on an old classic, but if we've inspired you, we have costumes from these and many other productions in stock, all ready for you to hire to make your Hallowe'en celebrations dramatic, thrilling and chilling.
Gothic, ghostly, haunting, gory, spooky, freaky, evil, murderous; swirling cloaks, blood-spattered shirts, distressed dresses, jet, feathers, velvet, masks - we have them all. Drama – that's what we do best!
Just give us a ring to book an appointment. And remember that Hallowe'en is a busy time for us, so be sure to book early.
