We're looking for volunteers who are passionate about creating a welcoming visitor experience to support the invigilation of our forthcoming 50th anniversary exhibition, Mythic Reinventions: An Exhibition Celebration 50 Years of Costume and Craft, running from 16 September to 22 November 2026.

Exhibition Volunteers will help visitors navigate the exhibition in our Great Hall, answer frequently asked questions, and provide basic information about the exhibits when requested. Volunteers will act as friendly and visible presence within the exhibition, helping visitors to enjoy and engage with the work on display.
An important part of the role will be helping safeguard the artworks and costume items on display from the theatres archive, while supporting the security and safety of the exhibition environment. Volunteers will also be encouraged to undertake research to develop a deeper understanding of the items on display. Training and supporting information will be provided throughout the exhibition.
If you are interested, please email recruitment@royalexchange.co.uk by 10.00am on Tuesday 11 August 2026, including a short summary of any previous volunteering experience and your interest in theatre (and costume, if you have any relevant interest, skills or experience).
An interest in theatre, art, costume, museums or exhibitions is desirable, but not essential. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds who are enthusiastic about engaging visitors and supporting the Royal Exchange Theatre.
Please note that applications can only be considered from those who are available to attend both of the following dates. In your email, please confirm that you can attend both sessions and let us know of any access requirements we can support:
  1. Group interview/workshop on Wednesday 19 August 2026 (you will be asked to attend one session only, at either 2pm, 4pm or 6pm).
  2. Volunteer induction on Friday 11 September 2026 at 10am
