Sharing stories from down the ROAD, this February Half Term's Young Company Short gives you a chance to work with theatre-makers to explore writing, performing and directing.
In the second edition of our Young Company Shorts, this project takes inspiration from Jim Cartwright’s masterpiece ROAD. Led by industry professionals, over 4 days you’ll learn more about the theatre making process and create your own character, write a monologue and perform a story from down your ROAD at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
This project runs from Tuesday 17 February – Friday 20 February, 11am – 4pm at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Over the 4 days, you can expect to:
- Create memories over the course
- Learn about and explore elements of theatre making, from writing to performing!
- Work with professional artists
- Make new friends and build confidence along the way
Its all about creativity, collaboration and – most importantly – having a lot of fun. No experience required to take part in this introduction to theatre making.
Apply by Monday 2nd February via this short form.
The course fee is £80 for the full 4 days.*
*ArtsPot available to support the cost of course fees and/or travel costs for those who would not otherwise be able to participate. Simply fill out the ArtsPot section of the application form to request financial support.
‘Road’s coming round us!’
It’s 1986. Your rumbustious chaperone Scullery guides you down the road, picking up the raucous and the ready for it, as ‘owt can happen tonight’. From dusk till dawn, the hopelessly hilarious and divinely desperate laugh, sing, dance and eat chips – all searching for something different.
Jim Cartwright’s award-winning masterpiece invites you to join the inhabitants of this derelict northern road on an unforgettable journey. Shockingly relevant to our lives today, the play’s visceral, eloquent poetry paints a tough world with tenderness.
Directed by Artistic Director Selina Cartmell, this revival marks the 40th anniversary of the play. In this exhilarating theatrical experience, audiences explore the Royal Exchange before taking their seats in the theatre.
