A one-day national symposium presented in association with The University of Manchester.
You, The Audience Symposium
- 20 February 2017
- The Theatre
Join us for a vibrant day of discussion, provocation and performance, exploring ways of creatively reimagining theatre’s relationship with audiences.
The symposium will discuss: collaborating with and writing about audiences, creative approaches to sharing audience memories, and how organisations across the UK are fostering relationships with audiences based on collaboration and conversation rather than transaction.
This one day symposium is for people who make theatre and study theatre; it's for people who work with audiences and people who are audiences.
Confirmed Speakers include:
Maddy Costa (Writer and theatre critic)
Sarah Frankcom & Amanda Dalton (Royal Exchange Theatre)
Dr Rachel Clements (University of Manchester)
Alan Lane (Artistic Director, Slung Low)
Sonia Hughes (Artist)
Alex Kelly (Third Angel)
Andy Smith (Writer and Director)
Matt Fenton (Artistic Director, Contact)
Amber Massie-Blomfield (Executive Director, Camden People's Theatre)
Annabel Turpin (Chief Executive, ARC, Stockton Arts Centre)
Ruth Ibegbuna (CEO, Reclaim)
Liz O'Neill (CEO, Z-Arts)
The day will include sharing of learning from You, The Audience, a Royal Exchange Theatre Initiative that began in late 2014 and has developed in partnership with the University of Manchester. Working with audiences and artists it aims to imaginatively explore and re-broker the invisible contract between a theatre and its audiences, and to challenge and inform our own vision and practice. The programme has progressed through a series of creative projects including an audience sleepover, audience-led blueprints for theatres, an audience manifesto and artist-led provocations and exhibitions.
As part of the day communities working with the Royal Exchange Theatre will launch our Audience Manifesto.
