16 young people from Tameside took part in a week-long half term project creating their own a play under the expert guidance of director Martha Simon
16 young people came together to create a play with director Martha Simon. Over the course of a week they devised their own piece which they performed at the Den Festival at Stalybridge Civic Hall.
Congrats! celebrated young voices and talent through a collaborative, playful devising processes. The performance in the Den, our mobile theatre, celebrated their work in a professional festival setting.

What is the Den Festival?
The Den Festival is a festival took place over four weekends, launching on the 9th May and running until 1st June 2025. You can expect music, workshops, shows, comedy, dance, drama, family mornings and much, much more. This festival is for everyone in Tameside, programmed by local people who have been working with the Royal Exchange Theatre in volunteer roles as Ambassadors and Champions.
What is the Den?
The Den is the Royal Exchange Theatre’s mobile in-the-round theatre and is where the shows and most of the activity in the festival will take place.
