A PROGRAMME THAT ENCOURAGES MEMBERS OF OUR YOUNG AND ELDERS COMPANY TO TALK, PLAY AND BE TOGETHER.

"I have less of a fear about growing up, seeing what the older generation were capable of and hearing what they accomplished in life is a real comfort" Young Company member

"Some really engaging discussion at the Intergen forum this morning. It was great to hear Young Company and Elders alike talking openly and honestly about gender issues. I'm sure a few of us are looking at ourselves differently now." Elders Company member

In 2012, our Truth about Youth Festival brought together younger and older people in a unique production called MY YOUNG AND FOOLISH HEART. Following this, we wanted to find more ways for younger and older people to spend time together.

Since the formation of our Elders Company in 2014, we regularly find ways for our Young Company and Elders Company members to be together. This might be hanging out together at Press Nights, or taking part in Forum discussions and Masterclass workshops.

Intergen Forums are conversation sessions which start with a question linked to our repertoire. For example, for our production of TWELFTH NIGHT we discussed 'What is Gender?' with performner Kate O'Donnell).

Intergen Masterclasses are practical sessions with creatives from our productions, for example during INTO THE WOODS musical director Sean Green led an introduction to Sondheim's music.

Members of both companies also make plays together. FLICKER AND THE FLYING BOOKS was created for The Manchester Book Festival in 2015 and revived for our own Great Big Noise Festival in 2016.

In 2017, we created THE SPACE BETWEEN US, which asked how are we different, how are we the same and what does it mean to be human?
