In December 2020 an Art Project took place with Tameside Women’s Centre and artist Toubie Jack to create a mural focusing on positivity and hope. The project originally planned for early 2020 was a partnership between Global Groves and the Tameside Ambassador’s. Due to take place in person at the Women’s Centre it was then re-imagined taking place online using video group calls and Youtube sessions.
Artist Toubie Jack lead a seven-week programme meeting online as participants followed art prompts every week demonstrated by Toubie. Together they made a mural, focusing on positivity, hope, relaxation, and wellbeing during the pandemic. The outcome was a mural created using the art of Zentangles and Mandalas to be showcased in the Tameside Women’s Centre.

Participants Comments:
“Yes, I really enjoyed the activity, it helped me with my mental health and depression. I like everything about the group, I have made new friends and met lovely people.”
“I enjoyed using different materials and it was nice to chat with different people while doing my art. I enjoyed lots about the group, especially being inspired by others artistic ideas”.
“I really felt good to interact with other people, enjoyed working with different textured, encouraged me to start artwork again”.

See below images of the Mandalas they created, now showcased at Tameside Women Centre.

In March 2020 we were due to start a Craft Café in the food Pantry on Dukinfield Central Estate. This was an opportunity for residents to drop into craft sessions with artist Sam Edwards and spend some time crafting, making and designing. However due to the pandemic this could not go ahead. Instead, Sam has designed a colourful Art Pack that is being delivered in February 2021 to over 650 residents in Dukinfield, Cavendish Mill and Tameside Women’s Centre. The pack is our way of bringing the Craft Cafe to people’s houses. The pack includes colouring pages, nature watch, positivity wordsearch, kindness cut-out cards and a self-care manifesto to fill with ideas and ways to make each day feel better.
