THE FUTURE OF THE THEATRE
A STATEMENT FROM OUR EXECUTIVE TEAM: ROYAL EXCHANGE THEATRE CLOSES ITS STAGES UNTIL AUTUMN 2020
We have made some great connections with the Manchester Jewish Museum, the Irish World Heritage Centre, Abraham Moss School & Library, The Welcome Centre, Cheetham Hill Festival Committee, Tesco and the Ukrainian cultural centre.
Our ambassadors are very dedicated and have been discussing the past, present and future of Cheetham Hill. They have developed invaluable connections in their community networks and have already had a huge amount of success with the free ticket scheme. They are also passionate about co-creating an exciting artistic programme with us.
Abraham Moss High School Partnership
We began working with Abraham Moss High School in 2017. Since then we have delivered several workshops including scriptwriting, devising and comedy. Most recently the school participated in EXCHANGE 360 creating an original performance based on the theme of protest which was performed in the Royal Exchange in May 2019.
Abraham Moss Library Children’s Company
We created a satellite drop in Children’s Company at the library working with over 30 children and culminated in a trip to see our Christmas children’s show SLEEPYHEAD at the Exchange in December 2018.
Mighty Heart and Manchester Jewish Museum
Artists Mighty Heart worked with community groups across Cheetham hill for six months in 2018 leading towards a free community picnic at Manchester Jewish Museum in June 2018. Local poet Yusra Warsarma was commissioned to create a poem about Cheetham which was performed by members of the Young Company and Elders Company. There were also performances by local bands and poets, arts activities and lots of amazing food from local shops and restaurants in the area.
To date we have taken four Royal Exchange performances to venues in Cheetham Hill. MEMORIES OF PARTITION went to the Welcome Centre and Abraham Moss School, Year 9s at Abraham Moss School had a special performance of MIXTAPE, MOMENTS THAT CHANGED OUR WORLD was performed at the Irish World Heritage Centre and we created a site specific version of THE TEMPEST with the Young Company across Abraham Moss School.
